Share-safe photos/EXIF Remover
Remove GPS & EXIF from Photos
Strip location, camera model, and other hidden metadata before you share.
About this tool
Phone photos often embed GPS coordinates, camera model, lens settings, and capture time. That data can travel with every Marketplace listing, dating profile, or social post. This tool re-encodes your image in the browser so hidden metadata is dropped before the file leaves your device — we never upload your photo.
How to use
- Drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP photo (or click to choose a file).
- Wait a moment while we rebuild the image without metadata.
- Compare the preview if you like, then download the cleaned file.
- Upload only that cleaned copy when you post, sell, or message.
When to use it
Before a Marketplace or Craigslist listing
A living-room shot taken at home can still carry GPS that points near your address. Strip EXIF on every photo you plan to publish, including extras you might send later in chat. Keep the camera originals offline for yourself.
Dating apps and social stories
Profile and story photos are personal. Even if an app claims to scrub metadata on its CDN, starting from a GPS-free file is safer — especially when the same image is reused on another site or sent by email.
Screenshots of maps, tickets, or IDs
Screenshots usually carry little camera EXIF, but if you exported a camera photo into the shot or shared an original roll image, run this tool anyway. Pair with Photo Redactor when you need to blur faces, plates, or screen text.
How this compares
Desktop apps and some cloud “EXIF cleaners” require installs or uploads. Phone share sheets sometimes strip tags, but behavior varies by app and OS version. This page rebuilds a clean JPEG/PNG locally so you control the file before it hits any network. Use EXIF Viewer first if you want proof that GPS was present; use HEIC → JPG first if your iPhone file will not open on Windows.
Things to keep in mind
- Re-encoding drops metadata; pixels are redrawn at high quality, not bit-for-bit identical to the original container.
- Messaging apps may re-compress again after upload — that is separate from what this tool removes.
- Always keep an uncleaned original for yourself; only share the cleaned download.
- Live Photos / multi-frame HEIC: convert to JPG first, then strip EXIF on the JPG.
FAQ
- Does my photo leave my device?
- No. Processing runs entirely in your browser. We do not upload your files to our servers.
- Will the picture look different?
- Pixels are redrawn to a clean JPEG/PNG. Quality stays high; only embedded metadata is removed. Slight file-size changes are normal.
- Is GPS always present?
- Not always. Many phones embed it when Location Services were on. Use the EXIF Viewer first if you want to check.
- Does Facebook Marketplace strip EXIF for me?
- Some platforms re-encode uploads, but you should not rely on that. Cleaning locally is the only way to be sure location data is gone before it leaves your device.
- Can I edit individual EXIF tags?
- This tool produces a clean file without metadata rather than a tag editor. That is the safer default before public posts.
