Prepare Photos Before Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist
Strip location data, convert iPhone HEIC, and compress images so listings look clear and stay private.
Why listing photos need a quick cleanup
Phone cameras often embed GPS coordinates. On a for-sale post that can reveal roughly where you live. iPhone HEIC files also fail to open for many buyers on Windows. A two-minute cleanup before you tap Publish avoids both problems.
Recommended order
1) Convert HEIC to JPG if needed. 2) Remove GPS & EXIF on the file you will upload. 3) Compress if the site rejects large files. 4) Optional: add a light watermark with your handle.
Keep originals offline
Always keep the camera original on your phone or computer. Only upload the cleaned copies. If a chat asks for more angles, repeat the same cleanup.
FAQ
- Does Marketplace strip EXIF for me?
- Some platforms re-encode uploads, but you should not rely on that. Cleaning locally is the only way to be sure location data is gone before it leaves your device.
